My advice is – With so many years of service behind you, stop behaving like a youngster again. Find out things things for yourself. And, for God’s sake, stop relying on DGR. Haven’t you seen through their performance in so many years?

Sir, I beg to disagree on this. I feel that the perceptions and understanding of the issues are quite different while in uniform and after retirement. Personnel in service are given the benefits at their door steps and therefore are not fully aware of the realities faced by retired community. Also, agreeing to the argument that DGR is ineffective is effectively accepting statuesque and refusing to be strong enough to be a part of an initiative to bring in changes for the welfare of retired community. My suggestion would be to provide the realistic feedback and be constructive partner in this initiative. Yes, it is going to be slow, but it is definitely going to happen. May be we can find examples in Maj Dhanapalan and Maj Navdeep Singh

Well, I disagree. People with reasonable service in command assignments must learn to stand on their own. Maybe that will be a good first step for people moving out to civil jobs. And as for DGR, it does nothing worthwhile and there is no evidence that they have changed or are changing.

I agree with the requirement of personnel with command experience to have understanding of wide variety of issues and be able to take up necessary steps. But at the same time, realistic assessment would only be feasible with realistic primary data, which in the extant case is the feedback from veterans who have gone through the rigors of resettlement.

As far as DGR is concerned, it is clearly enhancing its effectiveness and reach through various steps, especially in the recent past. Unfortunately, due to the size and area of responsibility, the changes are slow and would take some time to percolate down to the environment. The very fact that the current study is being sponsored by DGR is a case in point.

Good initiative but long to go. DGR/placement cells should try to gain trust of ESMs. You have to re engineer your systems, starting from courses you offer. Let u have have a mission and clear Vision. We support you, for making you grow and look out side the well and seeing the world.
